Garage Kept ‘79 Granada with supposedly rebuilt 302 V8 / C4 transmission. Less than 100k miles. Reupholstered front seat. Serviceable tires. Owner says, “I won’t accept less than $3,000 for it.” I’m not sure that’s realistic. Bring-a-Trailer?

3k for a running unabused car? NP

$3k for a vacuum-operated emissions system from your worst nightmare that probably has little baby cracks in every old ass rubber hose? CP. $1000 at most for this one.

My concerns were much more vague than yours, but I was like, “maybe a grand.” The car belongs to a friend whose father just passed, and the car was driving by his mother short distances and garage kept. I think this might be a perfect candidate for Bring-a-Trailer.

Every car has rubber bits that go. How much car relies on them to run varies greatly. I had no idea what this car was relying on to run properly. As you pointed out, this car is apparently a major pain in the ass. Maybe lower price would work.

$3k is probably what a semi-classic in great condition is worth.... but I really doubt you’ll find someone willing to pay $3k for a 4 door Granada.

How long has it been outside? UV rays are not friends with 70s plastics (nor any tires), and these were almost peak malaise.
No harm done at 3K if it has been stored, has legit safe tires, a tune up, and a good detail or at least solid paint and plastics.
I like the original blue plates anyway. Looks like it has power windows and an 8 track.

I think it would be a fun car to drive around, but for maybe $1500.
Did you know that Ford made some of those Granadas with 4sp manual trans and the V8?

The care is 9.5/10, I’d say. I want to put it on Bring-a-Trailer.

Couldn’t hurt, numerous cars no more exciting find their way there.
I’d give it a good cleaning first, however.

Pinnacle of Malaise. 302 engine
might
make 150 horsepower.

It is. It’s surprising what some cars go for on there.

If that. 120 would probably be generous.

Clearly not.
Personally, I’d love to drive it, but it’s far too rich for my blood.
Give me one that was parked in the trees for a few years for $50 instead. That way I don’t feel guilty about cutting it up.

I didn’t know that, but I’d believe it.
It should make it easy to swap in a manual to replace the C4, and a semi-classic manual V8 powered sedan sounds like a ton of fun.
But yeah, I’d say that $1500 sounds more appropriate.

I’d be close to that given how clean it looks.

$3k and a couple hours stripping all the emissions crap to have a comfortable, fun classic?

No matter how nice they are, cars like this are extremely hard to sell. There just isn’t an enthusiast base for land yachts, or compact pseudo-land yachts. It will probably linger around for a year, then go to the first person that offers $2,000.

I’d think $700 was on the high side for that car as it sits.

It appears to be in much better shape than the Town Car I just sold for $2k. Figured this would appeal to the same sort of buyer.

Except your town car was probably twenty years newer.

Five years newer.
